"His disciples will be born again as ones who shall reach out to those far away from the light, ones who shall embrace their neighbors, missionaries who shall spread the gospel to all their fellows."
-WhiteNight's Entry

Apostles Profile Image

Apostles' encyclopedia portrait

The Twelve Apostles, including the Heretic, are employees who have been blessed at some point by the Plague Doctor. Technically, they are abnormalities, but they function as an extension of WhiteNight. They have two forms: untransformed, where the player has control over them just like normal employees, and transformed, where the Plague Doctor's second form, WhiteNight, has control over them after activating its ability. The transformation doesn't have any effect on the 12th Apostle, who is deemed a Heretic.

Starting from 12 o'clock, the clock goes (12) Heretic, (1) Guardian, (2) Scythe, (3) Scythe, (4) Staff, (5) Staff, (6) Staff, (7) Spear, (8) Spear, (9) Spear, (10) Spear, and (11) Guardian.

During the Event[]

When the event starts for the first time, the clock will move from employee to employee on the clock and transform them into Apostles. If it can't find the location of an employee on the clock, it will check for if there are any with the gift, Bless. If it still can't find anyone, it will go down the list, starting at (1) alive agents, (2) alive clerks, (3) dead agents (room), and (4) dead clerks (room), in order to fill in the missing Apostle. The 12th Apostle can only be an alive agent, and as such, an alive agent is reserved before the others are selected. If one can not be reserved, there will be no 12th Apostle.

11 Apostles[]

The eleven transformed Apostles are tall, lanky missionaries with exoskeletons. They wear distinct masks that correspond to their name's location on the Plague Doctor's clock, with their now exposed jawlines showing beneath and the eyes on their masks glowing Red (Scythe, Staff, and Spear) or Blue (Guardian). They have wings on their backs similar to those of WhiteNight. They retain the hairstyle they had when they were human.

All eleven Apostles possess moderate MovementSpeedIcon Movement Speed (30) and high HPIcon HP (1000). Each type uses a different weapon that bears its own attack and defenses:

  • Scythe (Apostles 2 and 3): These Apostles wield black scythes with a cross-like design. Engraved on the blade is the number "666" and at the lower end of the weapon is a tiny red cross. They roam around the facility dealing RedDamageTypeIcon Red Damage. They possess three attacks: A large upward arc (180), a downward arc (150), and a grab. If an employee is standing near the Apostle while it does its grab attack, it will grab the employee, Possess them, and then perform a swing (50% chance of being upward or downward) that will instantly behead the Possessed employee. The grab attack does not damage other employees nearby, unlike the other attacks. Each attack has an equal likelihood of being performed.
    • The Scythe Apostle's defenses are: RedDamageTypeIcon Red: Vulnerable (1.5) - WhiteDamageTypeIcon White: Endured (0.5) - BlackDamageTypeIcon Black: Endured (0.5) - PaleDamageTypeIcon Pale: Endured (0.5)
  • Guardian (Apostles 1 and 11): Identical in appearance to Scythe Apostles, but with blue eyes instead of red. Unlike the roaming Scythe Apostles, Guardian Apostles guard WhiteNight and deal PaleDamageTypeIcon Pale Damage. They possess the same three attacks: A large upward arc (200), a downward arc (170), and a grab. The behavior of their grab attack is identical to that of Scythe Apostles: if an employee is standing near the Apostle while it does its grab attack, it will grab the employee, Possess them, and then perform a swing (50% chance of being upward or downward) that will instantly behead the Possessed employee. The grab attack does not damage other employees nearby, unlike the other attacks. Each attack has an equal likelihood of being performed.
    • The Guardian Apostle's defenses are: RedDamageTypeIcon Red: Endured (0.5) - WhiteDamageTypeIcon White: Endured (0.5) - BlackDamageTypeIcon Black: Endured (0.5) - PaleDamageTypeIcon Pale: Vulnerable (1.5)
  • Staff (Apostles 4, 5, and 6): These Apostles wield crosses with a big red ring on the end. At the ends of the crossbeam, there are tiny red rings that have chains on them. These Apostles will roam around the facility and will charge up an attack when an entity is in front of them. When their charge is finished, a dark beam will fire from the top of the weapon and lock onto the employee or abnormality closest to them, continuously dealing WhiteDamageTypeIcon White Damage (40). The entity must quickly move behind the Apostle or far away from it to avoid the attack. If the entity is successful, the dark beam will instead hit their original position.
    • The Staff Apostle's defenses are: RedDamageTypeIcon Red: Endured (0.5) - WhiteDamageTypeIcon WhiteVulnerable (1.5) - BlackDamageTypeIcon Black: Endured (0.5) - PaleDamageTypeIcon Pale: Endured (0.5)
  • Spear (Apostles 7, 8, 9, and 10): These Apostles wield spears styled after a cross. At the ends of the shorter crossbeam are red rings. Much like the Staff Apostles, Spear Apostles will roam around the facility and will charge up an attack when an entity is in front of them. Once their charge is finished, they will dash forward with their spear in front dealing a large amount of BlackDamageTypeIcon Black Damage (250) to all employees and abnormalities in their path. The damage dealt will be of class Risk Waw WAW.
    • The Spear Apostle's defenses are: RedDamageTypeIcon Red: Endured (0.5) - WhiteDamageTypeIcon White: Endured (0.5) - BlackDamageTypeIcon Black: Vulnerable (1.5) - PaleDamageTypeIcon Pale: Endured (0.5)

When any of the 11 Apostles are taken out in battle (HP is reduced to 1), they will kneel down and clutch their weapon, "awaiting WhiteNight's call." While kneeling, they are immune to damage and will not move unless healed. After WhiteNight releases its red ring (the "call"), all Apostles who have been downed will rise up again, fully healing their HP.

12th Apostle[]

The appearance of the untransformed Apostle, 'The Twelfth Apostle, The Heretic', remains mostly unchanged, with a three-eyed mask resembling that of the Plague Doctor Abnormality on their face.

The 12th Apostle is ignored by the other Apostles, gains immunity against all types of damage (including abilities that can instantly kill an employee, like Beauty and the Beast and Don't Touch Me), and can only do the special work on One Sin and Hundreds of Good Deeds. Completing this special work defeats WhiteNight instantly, but its EGO Weapon will not be granted. One Sin and Hundreds of Good Deeds' special work will be available as long as WhiteNight is escaping and can only be accessed by the 12th Apostle. The 12th Apostle will always leave the room it was assigned to work on and release any tool or abnormality effects placed on it when the event starts. This release does not include effects like being frozen by the Snow Queen or being protected by the Shelter from the 27th of March.

After the Event[]

When the event is over, all transformed Apostles will give up and impale themselves, awaiting WhiteNight's return to the earth to resurrect them from their eternal sleep. The 12th Apostle will instantly die upon WhiteNight's death as well, no matter the method of WhiteNight's defeat. Because only a living agent can become the 12th Apostle, a new agent is chosen to become the 12th Apostle each time WhiteNight escapes.

Flavour Text[]

  • “And I say also unto thee, That thou art [the first apostle], and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
  • “Tell us, when shall these things be?”
  • “Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them?”
  • “And [the third and fourth apostles]; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder.”
  • "[The fifth apostle] saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.”
  • “And as he passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named [sixth apostle]: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.”
  • “But there was a certain man, called [the seventh], which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people, giving out that himself was some great one.”
  • “Then said [the eight apostle], unto his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
  • “[The ninth apostle] answered and saith unto him, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.”
  • “[The tenth apostle] saith unto him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?”
  • “From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of Him.”
  • “He answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?”

Trivia[]

  • This minion has been reworked since the Legacy version, with some tweaks to the Apostle's appearance and weapons and with reworked animations.
  • An employee inside of the Shelter from the 27th of March can become the 12th Apostle, unlike other transformations. However, if there are more than 12 alive Agents in the facility when the event starts, the sheltered employee will not be chosen. This is most likely to prevent passing of the day in a certain event.
  • The Apostles are the only minions to use a unique portrait distinctive from their origin Abnormality or from the unknown '?' portrait.
  • The lines read when transforming the Apostles of WhiteNight in the game are similar to the lines associated with the Apostles of Jesus Christ in the Bible.
  • The transformed Apostles somewhat resemble the Mass Production EVA Units from Neon Genesis Evangelion, though this may be a coincidence.

Bugs[]

  • If the 12th apostle is inside We Can Change Anything before the event starts, the Heretic will leave the machine (Intended). However, the agent sprite will not be visible and the machine will act like an employee is still inside. The Machine will not produce any energy until another employee is sent inside of the machine again (reset).
  • While their progenitor, WhiteNight, is immune to the combined effect of Yin and Yang, any Apostle at full health will disappear on contact with the dragon. This is due to an oversight in the game's coding: While the Apostles are unable to fall below 1HP through battle damage, the Dragon reverses their HP and SP percentage directly, without a battle. This takes full-health Apostles "past" 1HP without touching it. As there is no code to handle an Apostle actually being suppressed, they disappear instead.
  • All Apostles are displayed and classed in the Stat File as ALEPH abnormalities, but for some reason in the game code, they are labeled as Risk Waw WAW, resulting in Spear Apostles using the latter label when dealing damage instead of the former.

Exploits[]

  • If the 12th Apostle selected is an employee in a Murder Panic response, the 12th Apostle will retain the Murder Panic State (or any state) during the event AS LONG AS their SP is still 0. Because the 12th Apostle is ignored by other apostles, they can defeat WhiteNight without much distraction from them. This can work against you if the 12th Apostle is in one of the other 2 Panic responses (Wander and Shutdown).
